Ecosystem Poetry Fun!

Try your hand at creating a poem on an aspect of ecosystems!

Acrostic Poems: uses the letter of your word for the start of each line. (see the link to the right for a website to help you create your own acrostic poem)

Cinquain Poems (see the link to the right for a website to help you create your own cinquain poem)

Shape Poems (create a poem in the shape of your poem's topic) like the one below!

This is a great way to connect language and science! Students love shape poems (poetry in general actually!) and this would be a great way to get them thinking of descriptive words to use from one subject to another!

YAY - I love seeing language across the curriculum :) And especially poetry which is so much fun.

Assignments

1. Using the website http://www.wordle.net/ create a wordle that shows what you know about ecosystems. Be sure to have at least 20 words.
2. Using the program Inspiration, create a diagram showing what you know about ecosystems.
3. Using the website http://www.kidscomputerlab.org/index.php/language-arts/poems/cinquain-poem/, create a Cinquain poem on ecosystems.
4. Create a Food Web Using the Interactive Food Web Tool.
5. Play the interactive game on how a plant grows and then describe 3 of the 4 conditions necessary for a plant to grow. (Air, temperature, light, moisture).
6. Play the Interactive Game on Microorganims. (Click on Creepy Crawly Critters). Part I: Record 6 places in/around your home where you could find microorganisms. Part II: Provide 2 examples of microorganisms that are actually HELPFUL in food production/ preservation.
7. Create a dramatic play on the life cycle of an animal OR, paint/watercolor the life cycle of an animal.
